UPDATE: Fallen Heroes Campaign Gets A Big Boost

We are pleased to announce, two months into our fundraising campaign for the Fallen Heroes Scholarship program, we have raised more than $62,000. The campaign was boosted by a generous $20,000 matching gift from a Coast Guard Foundation donor.

Now that we've seen such great results that same donor has agreed to match the entire amount raised so far! Needless to say, we're very grateful for this wonderful gift, and we need to thank all of the individuals who made this campaign such a success.

Established in 2005 by Foundation Director John Statts, the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund helps pay for college for those who lose a loved one in the line of duty. This endowment currently awards partial college scholarships to dependents of Coast Guard personnel who make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Losing a parent is an unparalleled tragedy, and the Coast Guard Foundation ensures that these heroes' loved ones receive a quality education in the wake of their death. There are currently 20 eligible candidates for the Fallen Heroes Scholarship.

Our hope is to expand the program to provide additional support to the families earlier on in the child's life, from the time of the disaster until the child reaches college age. We want to reinforce the importance of a good education and proactively assist the children in making sure their dreams of a college education become a reality when that time comes, to provide a full college scholarship.
