Sean P. Lawler, a fellow Coast Guardsman, has designed a t-shirt in memory of BCMS Terrell Horne III, who was killed in the line of duty last month. Lawler is selling the shirts, with 100 percent of the proceeds to be donated to the Coast Guard Foundation in Senior Chief Horne's memory.

The Coast Guard Foundation, in conjunction with the Jersey Cape Military Spouses' Club, helped brighten 250 new Coast Guard recruits' holiday this year by sending them stuffed stockings, which included gift cards, tote bags, snacks and assorted toiletries.

Faizal Westcott, a teenager from West Roxbury, Mass., has collected hundreds of DVDs and electronic devices to be donated to three Coast Guard Cutters based in Boston as part of a community service project to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. On Monday, Faizal was recognized for his generosity by the Coast Guard leadership in Boston at a small ceremony.

Senior Chief Terell Horne III, who was killed in the line of duty last month, was memorialized Saturday, December 8, at Coast Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach, where more than 1,000 people gathered to honor Horne's life and service to the Coast Guard.

The worst news came in late Sunday — a Coast Guard member, Senior Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne III, had died in the line of duty. BMC Horne was assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter HALIBUT, based out of Marina Del Ray, attached to Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach, California.

The following is a first-hand account of Coast Guard Foundation Trustee, Jim Mathieu and his family, who spent the past weekend helping Coast Guard families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Before heading up to New York City for the Veterans Day parade, my wife, Lori, and my son, James II, and I called out to our neighbors for clothing to support Coast Guard families in need after Hurricane Sandy in the greater New York, New Jersey area. Within hours, our car was full and we placed our car carrier on top and that too was filled.
