Coast Guard units from New York to Boston and beyond got a sweet surprise last week when the Girl Scouts of Connecticut donated 5,200 boxes of their world-famous cookies to be distributed throughout the Northeast as part of their Cookies for Heroes campaign.
Coast Guard personnel loaded up three vehicles with the cookies last Friday, and delivered them to their fellow shipmates in Staten Island, the southern New England coast, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and Cape Cod.
"Thank you to all that made this happen," said CWO Teresa Sander, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation director in Boston. "They will be greatly enjoyed throughout District 1."
MWR will continue to distribute the cookies to other bases throughout the Northeast this week.
"We are very grateful to the Girl Scouts of Connecticut for their 'Cookies for Heroes' gift to the Coast Guard," said Anne B. Brengle, president of the Coast Guard Foundation. "The Coast Guard Foundation tries to add a little sweetness to the lives of deserving men and women of the Coast Guard any chance we get."
