Coast Guard Foundation President Anne Brengle will present a gift to the United States Coast Guard for the Sault Ste Marie Community Center on April 28 in a ceremony at the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. RADM Fred M. Midgette, Commander of the Coast Guard’s Ninth Coast Guard District will represent the Coast Guard in the gift presentation.
“We are excited to make this gift to the Coast Guard so we can get started on the project this summer,” said Anne B. Brengle, Coast Guard Foundation President. “It’s time for Coast Guard members in Sault Ste Marie to have a place to call home, build community and host important milestone events. We’re honored to be a part of this project that will provide a foundation for Coast Guard families in the Great Lakes area.”
The Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Foundation will partner to fund the community center, which is expected to cost $650,000; Coast Guard Foundation support will provide $400,000 towards construction and interior furnishings, equipment and outdoor landscaping. The design plans call for a 3,000 square-foot building with a kitchen, a workout room, an activities room and an outdoor deck.
