10th Annual D.C. Dinner Recap

Our 10th Annual Tribute to the U.S. Coast Guard in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, June 10 honored the service's vital work for our nation, and featured Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, Vice Commandant Peter Neffenger, and Commandant Paul Zukunft, all of whom spoke on the importance of supporting the most crucial asset of the Coast Guard — the people who wear the uniform.

The evening was hosted by Fox News' Senior National Correspondent, John Roberts, and his wife, CNN correspondent, Kyra Phillips. The theme of the event was how the men and women of the Coast Guard are always ready to serve our nation, and how the Coast Guard Foundation is always read to serve those brave individuals.

In a sign of solidarity and commitment to the Foundation's mission, Secretary Johnson personally made a gift and presented it during his speech.

"The Foundation does wonderful things — you take care of our people, and for that we are forever grateful," Secretary Johnson said. "You're there to take care of the families of the fallen... we know if something happens to our Coast Guard family, you will be there. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of the Coast Guard Foundation."

Admiral Zukunft, who was named the 25th Commandant of the Coast Guard in late May, talked of the service's relevance to our country's security in the coming years. He spoke of the risks that accompany serving the country, referencing Petty Officer Travis Obendorf, who died in the line of duty last December after suffering injuries during a rescue operation in Alaska.

Also in attendance were several Coast Guard Foundation scholarship winners, and the generous sponsors of those awards, Coast Guard Foundation Trustee, Lisa Kazor-Christovich and her husband, Commander Daniel J. Chistovich, USCG, Ret. The scholars are all children of enlisted Coast Guard personnel with outstanding academic achievements.
