The Coast Guard Foundation hosted its Inaugural Texas Reception Wednesday, September 19 in Houston, raising important awareness for our mission in the Gulf Coast region, as well as providing support for two Marine Safety Units: a beach volleyball court at Texas City and softball equipment in Port Arthur, Texas.

The Coast Guard Air Station in Cape Cod unveiled a newly resurfaced tennis court Monday that was made possible in part by the Coast Guard Foundation Shipmate Fund.

The Coast Guard Foundation sold a 40-foot-long J-120 sailboat, with the proceeds benefitting the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's offshore sailing team. The 1994 yacht is named Ricochet and was designed by Rodney Johnston of J Boats in Warren, Rhode Island.

The Coast Guard Foundation and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association christened two brand new Leadership 44 training sailboats in New London, Conn. last week, the third and fourth boats delivered to the Academy so far in the ongoing Leadership 44 campaign.

The Coast Guard Foundation is pleased to announce this year's awards of $142,500 in college scholarships to 46 children of enlisted Coast Guard personnel. Below are the names of the students, the type of scholarship they received, their home towns, the college they attend or plan on attending, and their area of study. The Coast Guard Foundation has 82 scholars that we are currently supporting for a total of $225,200.

This year marked the first time in many years that the Foundation was able to fund all of the requests from qualified students, a milestone that we are very proud of. We were able to reach this achievement thanks to some very generous anonymous donors. They were impressed with the quality of all the applicants, and donated $16,000 to make sure each one received a scholarship.

President Harry Truman said, "Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid." And while we cannot repay these fine individuals, we can honor their service, which is what the Coast Guard Foundation did Tuesday, June 12, with its Tribute to the Coast Guard in Our Nation's Capital the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The keynote speaker for the evening was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin E. Dempsey. 

On Thursday, the Coast Guard Foundation, thanks to the Huggies "Camo for a Cause" campaign, received an in-kind donation of 250,000 diapers, which will be distributed to Coast Guard families throughout the country over the coming months.

As a non-profit, the Coast Guard Foundation relies on the generosity of corporations, foundations, individuals and groups to fund the many programs and projects we provide that support the men and women of the Coast Guard and their families. One such company, L-3 Communications, has supported the Foundation for many years in many capacities, funding projects around the country which support enlisted members and their families, as well as programs at the Coast Guard Academy that benefit the future officer corp.

The Coast Guard Foundation Pacific Area Award was presented to Coast Guard Station San Francisco Boat Crew 25501 on Wednesday, May 16, for a rescue on Father's Day last year, saving a father and his two children from the cold waters of San Francisco Bay.

The Coast Guard community lost a dear friend recently, when Captain Paul E. Deveau passed away from cancer on April 25. To honor his memory, anonymous donors have generously spearheaded a $50,000 matching gift campaign for the newly established Paul E. Deveau Scholarship Fund here at the Coast Guard Foundation.
