Coast Guard Foundation Awards for Heroism 2011
At the Foundation's 31st Annual Salute to the Coast Guard in New York City, October 13, 2011, two crews were awarded for their exceptional heroism in the line of duty. The crew of a fast-rescue boat, CG-MLB 47254, from Tillamook Bay, Oregon was awarded for the heroism they displayed in rescuing a crew of fishermen whose boat was capsized and torn in half by a 16-foot wave last October. The helicopter crew of CG-6038, from Sitka, Alaska was honored for a rescue of an injured hiker from a remote mountain cliff.
