The Coast Guard Foundation relies on its supporters to make our mission possible. Sometimes those supporters go above and beyond just making a donation to the Foundation, and become fundraisers themselves. In the digital age, these types of fundraising relationships are easier to forge than ever.
Recent examples of peer-to-peer fundraising for the Foundation include:
- Coast Guard LT Brian Bruns' Race to Remember, where LT Bruns ran a 100-mile ultramarathon in the Florida Keys in honor of all the Coast Guard personnel who have died since 9/11. LT Bruns raised money from family, friends and colleagues in support of his race, which he donated to the Foundation's Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund.
- Ryan White, a former Coast Guard lieutenant, created commemorative bracelets in memory of the members of the crew of CG-1705, a Coast Guard plane that tragically crashed in 2009. Mr. White raised several thousand dollars as a result of his efforts.
- LT Paul Johansen raised money for a long-distance bike trip that raised more than $1,200 for the Fallen Heroes Scholarship program.
- Elmer's Restaurant in Portland, Oregon hosted a Classic Car show that raised more than $1,300 for the Foundation in August 2011.
- Since 2007, The Atchafalaya Chapter of API has raised more than $37,000 to support local Coast Guard in Morgan City, Louisiana by hosting a charity golf tournament. They've generously donated the proceeds of the tournament to the Coast Guard Foundation, and we distribute it to the Marine Safety Unit of Morgan City.
