In 2011, Coast Guard LT Brian Bruns raised funds by competing in the Run to Remember, where LT Bruns ran a 100-mile ultramarathon in the Florida Keys in honor of all the Coast Guard personnel who have died since 9/11. LT Bruns raised nearly $4,000 from family, friends and colleagues in support of his race, which he donated to the Foundation's Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund.
In the year following Brian's initial fundraising efforts, the Run to Remember grew exponentially. Brian was transferred to the West Coast, so Lucy Love, a Miami-based Coast Guard lieutenant, took over the run and transformed it into an even bigger success. Under Lucy's supervision, the Run to Remember brought in more than $12,000 for the Fallen Heroes Scholarship in 2012.
We are grateful to Lucy and Brian for their hard work and dedication to making the Run to Remember a premiere event that raises funds for the children of heroes of the Coast Guard who make the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
