The Coast Guard Foundation is proud and honored to announce a record year of support for our Spouse Grant Program. Through both our traditional spouse scholarship program and a special grant from Delta Dental, we awarded $109,500 in aid to support 189 individuals who are pursuing college degrees and professional certifications.

The Coast Guard Foundation is committed to helping Coast Guard spouses earn their degrees and expand their employment options. We are grateful to our generous supporters who made this year’s program possible.

Words can never express the gratitude I have for the Coast Guard Foundation. One of the best things about being part of the Coast Guard is that it is truly like being part of a big family...This scholarship will go a long way in helping me reach my goal of becoming a librarian. Please thank everyone at the Foundation for everything they do every day for us.

- -Donna, Recipient of a 2019 Coast Guard Foundation Spouse Scholarship

Coast Guard Foundation Spouse Grant: In 2019, our hallmark scholarship program reached 179 hardworking Coast Guard spouses who are enrolled in higher education, continuing education and certification programs. This program awards $500 for each qualifying spouse of enlisted members.

Coast Guard spouses awarded grants this year are enrolled in all types of educational pursuits, from professional certifications and licenses, to undergraduate and graduate degrees. Many of our scholars are working toward their degrees in nursing, while others are majoring in accounting and business administration, healthcare administration, education, English, engineering and psychology. This year’s scholarship recipients are also earning their real estate license, early childhood education certificates and becoming yoga instructors and lactation consultants.

Our spouse grants are awarded in honor of Lisa Cook Reed, a beloved Coast Guard Foundation staff member who passed away in 2013. Lisa was a dedicated staff member who worked to generate support for Coast Guard members and families, and in particular, was a tireless advocate for our spouse grant program.

Delta Dental - Joint Military Coalition Oral Health/Wellness Education Scholarships: Through a special grant from Delta Dental this year, we are able to award ten grant awards, valued at $2,000 each, to Coast Guard spouses who are studying oral health and wellness. A total of $20,000 was awarded in this category to Coast Guard spouses enrolled in nursing school, dental programs, and other career-tracks focused on health and wellness.

I am so incredibly honored and grateful for being selected as a recipient of a Coast Guard Foundation Spouse Grant. As we prepare for another PCS move, this was such a happy and welcome blessing to ensure that my educational and professional goals aren’t set aside as military life happens.

This grant has given me peace of mind and will allow me to pursue my dreams of working within the dental field without the added stress of finances.

The Joint Military Coalition, of which the Coast Guard Foundation is a part, includes military serving organizations that represent the five military branches. In addition to the Coast Guard Foundation, the members are the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), the Association of the United States Navy (AUSN), the Marine Corps League (MCL) and the Air Force Association (AFA). Together, across the five organizations, Delta Dental awarded $100,000 to support military spouse education.
