The Coast Guard Foundation is honored to be named the Community Champion of the Sport Fishing Championship, a series created to showcase the sport of saltwater fishing. The partnership will kick off with “The Catch,” a catch-and-release celebrity event featuring NFL superstars and the Sport Fishing Championship’s top anglers. The catch includes three days of events, music, and entertainment from the famous Miami Beach Fontainebleau Hotel. It will be broadcast live on CBS on Saturday, April 15, from 1 – 3 p.m. EDT. Fishing for the Coast Guard Foundation will be:

  • Justin Herbert, Quarterback, LA Chargers (Pro Bowl, 2020 NFL Rookie of The Year)
  • Tyreek Hill, wide receiver, Miami Dolphins (Super Bowl Champion, 4X NFL All-Pro, 7X Pro Bowl)
  • A.J. Brown, wide receiver, Philadelphia Eagles (NFL All-Pro, 2X Pro Bowl)
  • Dalvin Cook, running back, Minnesota Vikings (4X Pro Bowl)
  • Chris Jones, defensive tackle, Kansas City Chiefs, (2X Super Bowl Champion, 4X NFL All-Pro, 4X Pro Bowl)
  • Matthew Judon, linebacker, New England Patriots (4X Pro Bowl)
  • Patrick Surtain II, cornerback, Denver Broncos (NFL All-Pro, Pro Bowl, CFP National Champion)

The Sport Fishing Championship series features established fishing tournaments throughout the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico as well as in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In doing so, organizers are working to positively impact the local economies of historic fishing towns while educating the next generation of anglers in the areas of marine science and environmentally responsible angling.

“We are grateful to the Sport Fishing Championship and all the participants of “The Catch” for highlighting the need to support the Coast Guard members who serve our Nation and protect, defend, and save citizens at home and abroad,” said Susan Ludwig, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “Many Coast Guard Foundation supporters are boaters and sport fishers. Partnering with the Sport Fishing Championship allows us to inform people interested in the sport how the Foundation assists Coast Guard members and families, where and when they are most in need.”

"It’s a massive moment for our sport,” said Mark Neifeld, CEO & Commissioner of Sport Fishing Championship. “Competitive saltwater fishing live on CBS on consecutive Saturdays following the NCAA Final Four and The Masters - this was unthinkable only a year ago. Our talented athletes earned this platform alongside other sporting greats.

“We are so proud to partner with the Coast Guard Foundation and honor the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard, veterans, and their families. The Catch on CBS is such a wonderful platform to bring much-needed attention to the Coast Guard Foundation as two weeks later our competitors will embark on a five-month journey competing offshore in our 2023 SFC Billfish Season. We sincerely appreciate the work of the Coasties who look after our competitors during the season and want to preserve a moment in the national spotlight to support the Coast Guard Foundation's mission."
