This October is a month of incredible opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of Coast Guard members and their families. We're excited to highlight two key initiatives: DAF Day on October 9th and National Estate Planning Awareness Week from October 20-26, 2025.

DAF Day: A Modern Way to Give

Get ready to make a significant impact! We at the Coast Guard Foundation are excited to be part of the second annual DAF Day, taking place on October 9, 2025. This national movement encourages giving from donor-advised funds (DAFs), and it's a powerful way for you to support our brave Coast Guard members and their families.

After a successful launch in 2024, DAF Day is back to help streamline and amplify your charitable giving. If you have a DAF, this is a perfect time to join with thousands of others to support the causes you are passionate about.

Give From My DAF

What is a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?

You might be wondering, "What exactly is a DAF?" A donor-advised fund is like a personal charitable savings account. It's an account you establish at a public charity where you can make a contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from the fund to your favorite charitable organizations - like the Coast Guard Foundation - over time.

Why is a DAF a Good Giving Option?

Using a DAF is a simple, effective, and tax-efficient way to manage your charitable giving. Here are a few key benefits:

  • Simplicity: You can contribute a variety of assets, such as cash, stocks, or other appreciated assets, into one account, making it easy to track your giving.
  • Tax Efficiency: You are eligible for an immediate tax deduction in the year you contribute to your DAF. This is especially helpful if you experience a significant financial event, like a bonus or sale of a business.
  • Growth: Your contributions can be invested and grow tax-free, increasing the amount you can give to support our missions in the future.

National Estate Planning Awareness Week: Leave a Lasting Legacy

Following DAF Day, from October 20-26, we recognize National Estate Planning Awareness Week. This is a perfect time to think about your long-term goals and how you can leave a legacy of support for the causes you care about.

An estate plan is a roadmap for the future, ensuring your wishes are carried out and your loved ones are cared for. By including the Coast Guard Foundation in your estate plans, you can create a lasting tribute that will support Coast Guard members and their families for generations to come.

How Your Support Makes an Impact

Whether you choose to give through your DAF, or by including us in your estate plan, your generosity makes a direct and lasting difference in the lives of Coast Guard members. Your generosity helps us provide:

  • Education: Your support funds scholarships for Coast Guard children and spouses, helping them achieve their dreams.
  • Morale and Wellness: You help us deliver vital morale, wellness, and recreation initiatives that assist Coast Guard members and families in staying strong and resilient, especially during long deployments.
  • Relief: Your contributions provide a crucial safety net for families of fallen heroes and help us assist with the unique challenges that military families face.

This October, you have the power to make a gift that truly matters. Join us for DAF Day on October 9th and consider your legacy during National Estate Planning Awareness Week.
