This year, the Coast Guard Foundation partnered with Navy Federal Credit Union to bring some Thanksgiving cheer to Coast Guard members standing the watch at several stations throughout Florida.

Coast Guard members at Air Station Clearwater, Station Port Canaveral, and Sector and Base Miami Beach enjoyed turkey, stuffing and all the fixings (plus dessert!) delivered right to their duty stations.

“On behalf of the Commanding Officer and the duty crew, I would like to thank you and Navy Federal for the generous donation, shared MK2 T.J. Bible, Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral. “I personally spoke with the crew Thanksgiving evening and they really enjoyed the meal. It was ready on time, hot, and plenty of food for everyone and their families. Thank you for making this meal possible!”

The crew of the cutter WAESCHE expected to be home in California for the holiday, but an on-board fire earlier in the year sidelined the ship to a port in Japan for necessary repairs. Through Navy Federal and Coast Guard Foundation board member Joe Phair and his wife, Bonnie, the crew had the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner pier-side. “To-go boxes” were delivered to those members who remained on-board during the meal.

Thank you. It really made a difference for this crew that would otherwise have been home for Thanksgiving.

- VADM Linda Fagan, U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area Commander

“It’s critically important to show our Coast Guard members that we value their service every day of the year, and it is all the more imperative on special occasions like Thanksgiving,” noted Susan Ludwig, Coast Guard Foundation president. “On behalf of everyone at the Coast Guard Foundation, ‘thank you’ for your commitment and devotion to duty.”
