Amid Texas flash floods at Camp Mystic, Coast Guard swimmer Scott Ruskan and CG-6553 saved 5 campers, evacuated 200+, setting a record and earning honors.
When flash floods devastated Camp Mystic in Texas, the dangerous conditions didn’t stop Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskan and the crew of helicopter CG-6553 from executing their mission to save lives.
Scott and his team rescued five campers from immediate danger and coordinated the evacuation of more than 200 survivors using helicopters in a single mission. They set an all-time Coast Guard record.
Scott was honored by the Coast Guard Foundation in Texas for his heroic and extraordinary actions.
