Meet our 2022 CGF USAA Enlisted Reserve Scholarship Recipients

The Coast Guard Foundation, thanks to the generosity of USAA, recently awarded eight scholarships to enlisted Coast Guard Reservists and their family members.

The Coast Guard Foundation, thanks to the generosity of USAA, recently awarded eight scholarships to enlisted Coast Guard Reservists and their family members. This long-standing program recognizes the unique contributions and sacrifices that Coast Guard reserve members make to our Nation and is open to Reservists their spouses, and their college-aged children. The program allows them to work towards their higher education goals and build successful careers that sustain their local communities.

Coast Guard Rear Admiral Miriam L. Lafferty, Assistant Commandant for Reserve, personally called each scholarship recipient to share the news and offer her congratulations.

The program allows them to work towards their higher education goals and build successful careers that sustain their local communities.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Johanna Brann, Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach, Long Beach, Calif. Petty Officer Brann is pursuing a master's degree in digital forensics and cyber investigation at the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Chief Petty Officer Matthew Harding, Station Belle Isle, Detroit, Mich. Chief Harding is pursuing a career technical workforce education certificate at Bowling Green State University.

"I am honored to be awarded this scholarship. It will help me tremendously," shared Chief Petty Officer Harding. "I am a reserve machinery technician, and I was recently hired to teach high school-level diesel mechanics, my dream civilian job. The scholarship will help me fund my teaching license classes."

Petty Officer 2nd Class Brennan Kelly, Sector Honolulu, Hawaii. Petty Officer Kelly is pursuing a bachelor's degree in theology at Pacific Rim Christian University.

Chief Petty Officer Tiffany Molinick, Force Readiness Command, Norfolk, Va. Chief Molinick is pursuing a doctorate in biomedical sciences at Old Dominion University.

Morgan Chiara, child of Chief Petty Officer Lester Lanman of the Atlantic Strike Team, Fort Dix, N.J. Morgan is pursuing a bachelor's degree in health sciences at Lock Haven University.

Jillian Gonzalez, child of Petty Officer 2nd Class David McNeilly of Sector Houston/Galveston, Houston, Texas. Jillian is pursuing a bachelor's degree at Sam Houston State University.

Cody Lang, child of Petty Officer 3rd Class Katie Lang of Marine Safety Unit Chicago, Chicago, Ill. Cody is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business administration at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.

Katherine Martin, child of Petty Officer 1st Class James Martin of the Pacific Area Maritime Intelligence Fusion Center in Alameda, Calif. Katherine is pursuing a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi.

"Thank you for the amazing opportunity, shared Katherine. "I hope to one day serve in the U.S. military as a field surgeon, an endeavor that could not be reached without the gracious help of the Coast Guard Foundation!"
